Each summer, the UC Davis Upward Bound Program hosts 65 high school students for an intensive, six-week, residential program. The Summer Program is a vital part of the Upward Bound experience and is geared to create a sense of community while building the academic skills, motivation, and self-confidence necessary for success in college.
Upward Bound Summer Program is open to current Upward Bound students. Selection will be based on the past academic year’s participation at school sessions and other Upward Bound events.
For six-weeks, students will spend their weekdays living on the UC Davis campus and return home on the weekends. During the week, they are required to take classes (eligible for up to 10 units of high school credit) as well as participate in various activities, workshops, test-preps, culture nights, college field trips and more.
Classes are block schedule. Upward Bound offers students classes in mathematics, chemistry, biology, environmental science, composition, literature, foreign language, and much more. Each year, different classes are offered. Past class offerings have included:
Upward Bound also offers a concurrent summer program for Upward Bound participants who have recently graduated high school. Bridge students often take two classes: a college-level composition course and a leadership course. In past years, Bridge students have also interned for the NYSP program and a weekly seminar put on by the UC Davis TRIO Scholars program.
